Yes. We have courses which are perfect for ‘improvers’. In all our classes, students are given the space to progress at their own pace, so if your muscle memory kicks in you’ll be encouraged to work on more ambitious projects.

Yes. Our membership scheme is ideal for potters looking for somewhere they can work independently and benefit from the facilities of a well-equipped studio. Your monthly membership fee will include a four-hour session at the same time every week, use of a wheel and workbench space, access to our slab roller, tools and a range of glazes, underglazes and slips. (Plus tea and coffee!). Kiln fees are charged separately.

Yes. There is plenty of free parking.

No. We wouldn’t recommend either, as the road doesn’t have a pavement and is on a tight corner.

For all of our classes we use smooth, white stoneware. Clay is included in the termly fee if you’re signing up for a class, but members will need to bring their own clay.

Members are allowed to use whatever clay they like, so long as it’s a stoneware that can tolerate 1250 degrees. (You’re very welcome to buy smooth white stoneware directly from the studio at £17 for a 12.5kg a bag.)

Yes – sort of. If you miss a tutored session from one of the termly classes, you can make up the time (2.5 hours) as untutored time in the studio. If there are dates you know you can’t do, get in touch before you sign up so we can discuss the available catch-up slots.

 Catch-up sessions for members are also possible, but always subject to availability.

Yes. Every member will have access to a wheel for each session they attend.

Yes. Every member gets a shelf on which they can store glazes, tools and works in progress. Unfortunately, we can’t offer any extra storage space if your shelf gets full – but we haven’t found that this has been a problem for any of our members so far.

Every tutored course comes with four, glazed and fired pieces as part of the termly fee. Firing charges for any additional items are charged at £2 per piece.

For members, each item is weighed after its final firing and is charged at 80p per 100g.

Yes. But please note, we will always ask to see the glaze pot so we can check that the glaze is compatible with our firing temps and we reserve the right to refuse any pieces that we are worried might run onto the shelves. This is very rarely the case as we encourage all members to discuss any off-piste glazing plans before spending any money parts hands!

All non-studio glazes should be from reputable brands, appropriate for stoneware firing up to 1250 degree and applied according to the manufacturers’ instructions.

If you’re a production potter, our studio probably isn’t the right fit for you. Whilst lots of our members do sell at markets every now and then, unfortunately we don’t have the space or resources to house potters who are producing dozens of pieces per session. If you’re not sure if this describes you, please do get in touch and we can have a chat.

We ask that children are at least 11 years old before signing up for classes or a party at the studio.

Unfortunately not. We only run a handful of kids’ classes and they are usually fully booked which means there’s no space for catch ups.

Unfortunately, there is no exclusive area you can use for a kids’ tea party, but there are communal sofas on which the kids can sit while they have a drink and a snack. We wouldn’t recommend you bring a full-on spread, though, as this area is also used by others in the building and it only contains a small coffee table.

At least one grown up needs to stay throughout the party, unless the children are 13+

Your children’s creations will be ready 2-3 weeks after the party finishes. We will get in touch with you when they are ready to be picked up.

Clay can sometimes stain so make sure all children are wearing their ‘messy’ clothes and if possible, they should also bring an apron.

Our studio can host up to 7 guests, but we also have access to a much larger space in which we can cater for around 30 people.

Yes. Our regular package is 2.5 hours long and involves attendees creating one hand-built piece and one piece on the wheel. This costs £65pp and includes tea, coffee and biscuits. If this doesn’t suit, we are always happy to discuss creating a tailor-made session for your budget and time-requirements.

Yes. We can host small parties for 6 or 7 people. The session will last 2 hours and everyone will have the chance to make 2 pieces, one hand built and one on the wheel. The cost is £40pp and we have day-time, evening and weekend slots available.

Yes – so long as we think it’s doable! We will have a range of suggestions as to what we think it achievable in the time and we’re happy to let you make the final choice.
